Flora and Fauna
Couran Cove Island Resort is one of Australia's leading ecotourism
resorts, boasting a unique indigenous history and a genuine
passion for the natural environment on beautiful South Stradbroke
Island.
The resort is a unique environmentally diverse site in
Australia and many types of native bushland are represented
within the island foreshores. There are the Mangroves on
the western side bordering the Gold Coast Broadwater; the
ancient Rainforest, the Melaleuca Coastal Wetlands, the
Eucalypt Woodlands and the vegetation occupying the 22km
long Eastern sand dune system.
This variety of flora brings with it a similar diversity
of wildlife, butterflies, birds, frogs, small animals of
all kind s-the resort teems with activity.
Over time, the island's invasive feral trees were removed
and today, because of their historical significance, the
only exotics remaining are the mangoes beside the chapel.
On long walks, an occasional lemon or orange can be glimpsed
where original settlers planted citrus around their little
houses or huts.
When it comes to nature we're not just a world class resort,
we're a truly living environment. We take our role in protecting
our delicate ecosystem very seriously and we encourage our
guests to do the same. Daily, the environment guides host
walks to introduce you to the native plants and animals
of the island. Why not start the day with a bird walk, search
for foods of the forest and explore the wonders of the night
sky?
To ensure you don't miss out on exploring our unique environment,
we have created a range of unforgettable experiences for
you to enjoy. |
